New York, NY – October 14, 2025 – On October 17, 2025, hundreds of high school students will participate in the Third Annual Life Science Cares Day, organized by Life Science Cares New York and Science in the City. The growing event will take place from 10 AM to 2 PM across ten premier sites throughout the city, Westchester and New Jersey including the American Museum of Natural History, Alexandria LaunchLabs, Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC) at The Graduate Center, City University of New York, Cure., IndieBio, New York Blood Center Enterprises, New York Structural Biology Center, Princeton Innovation BioLabs, Taystee Lab Building (Innovation Triangle-West Harlem), and West End Labs.
Life Science Cares Day invites high school students to explore the world of life sciences through hands-on activities, lab tours, and career conversations. Designed to ignite curiosity and foster a sense of belonging, the event focuses on students who have historically not had access to STEM fields.
Last fall, 250 students visited six life science research hubs in New York City. This year, the program expands into Princeton, NJ, and Westchester NY, broadening its reach to connect even more students and companies across the region.
“Learning science in a classroom is important, but seeing it come to life in real-world labs and research environments, from New York City to the greater Princeton area, is transformative for students,” said Elizabeth Fassberg, Executive Director of Life Science Cares New York. “It’s exciting to see high school students get inspired by scientists and motivated to become scientists themselves.”
“Life Science Cares Day is a powerful example of how the life sciences industry can come together to make a difference,” said Pablo Legorreta, Founder & CEO of Royalty Pharma, the event’s lead supporter. “By spotlighting healthcare innovation and entrepreneurship, Life Science Cares Day gives students direct access to the ideas, technologies, and career paths shaping the industry. Our hope is that this experience inspires them to pursue meaningful careers in life sciences and helps build a more diverse and inclusive workforce.”
Major supporters this year include Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, RTW Foundation, NYCEDC, Protara Therapeutics, and Coefficient Health.
“The students come back from Life Science Cares Day buzzing with excitement,” said Kyesha Ruffin, CEO of Science in the City and a long-time NYC public school science educator. “They don’t just learn about science, they see themselves in it. That spark of possibility can change the way they think about their future.”
“Hosting students on Life Science Cares Day is always a highlight for our team,” said R. Nolan Townsend, Chief Executive Officer, Lexeo Therapeutics. “It reminds us why we do this work and gives us the opportunity to empower young minds to see themselves as tomorrow’s innovators.”
