Life Science Cares and Thermo Fisher Scientific Announce Four-Year Collaboration to Strengthen Life Sciences Talent Pipeline

BOSTON (October 19, 2026), Life Science Cares (LSC), a national nonprofit mobilizing the life sciences industry to fight poverty and inequality, today announced a four-year collaboration with Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in serving science, which will support LSC’s mission of expanding access to careers, mentorship, and workforce development opportunities across the life sciences industry.

Thermo Fisher’s support will bring together LSC’s national network of affiliates–including hubs in Greater Boston, Philadelphia, New York, the Bay Area, San Diego, and North Carolina–with Thermo Fisher’s scale, scientific experience, and employee base to help LSC address a growing workforce gap and persistent inequities in access to STEM education and careers.

Sarah MacDonald, LSC’s CEO, noted that “every career is shaped by someone who opened a door, and Thermo Fisher’s support gives us an opportunity to connect more young people with opportunities to explore and fulfill their potential in STEM. Incredible partners like Thermo Fisher are not just supporting our mission; they’re investing in the next generation of our industry.”

This collaboration will enable LSC to support student mentorship and explore opportunities for strategic grantmaking, while also deepening the organization’s engagement with the small and mid-sized biotech ecosystem. Thermo Fisher’s support has already been visible in action, with the company’s employees participating in Project Onramp Showcases in Boston, Philadelphia, the Bay Area, New York, and San Diego, where they shared career advice and provided mentorship to Project Onramp interns, many of them first-generation college students entering the life sciences for the first time.

“Our industry’s continued progress depends on developing the next generation of talent. Supporting Life Science Cares allows us to help more young people see a future for themselves in life sciences,” said Jakob Gudbrand, President, Customer and Commercial Excellence, Thermo Fisher Scientific and Executive Member of the Life Science Cares Advisory Council. “By bringing together Life Science Cares’ community reach with the experience and commitment of our colleagues, we can help more students gain the exposure, relationships and opportunities that can open doors to meaningful careers.”

Over the four-year collaboration, LSC and Thermo Fisher will track progress through shared measures of impact with the ultimate goal for the program to become a blueprint model that other life sciences companies can adopt.
