Grants awarded to five local nonprofits addressing important social change issues, including hunger, homelessness, and access to education and economic opportunity.

SAN DIEGO – January 12, 2023  – Life Science Cares (LSC) San Diego has awarded $350,000 in grants to five nonprofit organizations in the San Diego area, bringing LSC San Diego’s total giving to nearly $1,000,000 across 17 organizations since the organization’s inception in 2020.

The second round of grants LSC San Diego has provided the community in 2022 focused on nonprofit partners that LSC has supported since 2021. The five organizations selected for an additional round of funding include: Junior Achievement, Barrio Logan College Institute, MANA de San Diego, +Box, and Serving Seniors. Through LSC’s method of partnerships, the impact goes beyond a financial contribution, LSC also facilitates volunteer support for partner nonprofits. Volunteers have participated in LSC-run giveback events including food drives, serving meals, and inviting students to tour life science offices to support their interest in STEM education.

All LSC volunteers are employees of LSC life science corporate partners and together have contributed over 5,500 hours of volunteer support. These efforts have resulted in the provision of over 33,000 meals for food insecure individuals, over 1,400 students connecting directly with STEM professionals, and over 5,000 low-income individuals receiving critical supplies. By the end of 2022 LSC volunteers directly impacted over 30,000 individuals in need in our San Diego community.
