News | [Cambridge, MA March 12, 2025]—Life Science Cares (LSC) today launched the Network of Good (NOG), a user-friendly, digital platform built to redefine employee volunteerism and community engagement. Created by LSC for its corporate and nonprofit partners, this proprietary platform streamlines how employers and nonprofit organizations connect with each other to support their communities.
Designed to improve employee engagement planning and tracking, the NOG platform allows companies in the life science industry to plan and schedule employee volunteer events, track time engaged in volunteering across the company, and report on engagement within the local community. It also supports LSC’s nonprofit partners’ efforts to scale their volunteer recruitment efforts. The tool allows both corporate and nonprofit partners to measure and reach their goals, thereby making a bigger collective impact in the communities in which they work and serve.
“Life Science Cares exists to build meaningful connections between our industry and community-based organizations. The NOG makes those connections easier, more scalable and, importantly, measurable,” said Sarah MacDonald, CEO of LSC. “NOG is more than just an online tool—it’s a catalyst for transformative change and the amplification of social impact for the life sciences industry.”
LSC is a national foundation focused on disrupting the cycle of poverty and inequality in our communities. As a philanthropic arm of the life science industry, LSC provides grants to nonprofit organizations who are working in the areas of basic needs, education, and economic opportunity. In addition to financial support, LSC’s innovative model provides hands-on support to its nonprofit partners by connecting volunteers and in-kind contributions from the life science industry to help further their missions and deepen the impact.
“LSC created this proprietary tool out of a need to help life science companies and nonprofit organizations connect and collaborate to support our neighbors in need,” said Peter Pedro, chair of the LSC Boston Board of Managers and president of the Life Sciences Practice at Marsh McLennan Agency. “NOG helps streamline small- and large-scale volunteer opportunities and helps companies of any size to track their giveback efforts and impact in the local community.”
NOG is available to all LSC corporate partners in the five cities LSC operates: Boston, New York, Philadelphia, San Diego, and the San Francisco Bay Area. The platform allows companies to view and sign up for volunteer events with LSC’s nonprofit partners by location, philanthropic interest (basic needs, education, opportunity), format (in person, virtual, indoors, outdoors), and frequency (day, week, or month of service events). Each company’s metrics are tracked and visible on a customized dashboard.
NOG also connects to the volunteer section of the LSC website, which features a range of volunteer opportunities available to anyone willing to dedicate their time to service and giving back.
“Our organization has benefited immensely from the volunteer power of Boston’s robust life science industry, made possible through Life Science Cares,” said Nora Wolf, chief development officer at St. Mary’s Center for Women and Children. “With the Network of Good (NOG) platform, LSC has further streamlined volunteerism and helped us make connections to countless companies. With the help of LSC—and now NOG!—we’re able to deepen the impact of our mission in both an efficient and collaborative way as we work to break cycles of multi-generational poverty and homelessness for women and children.”
