In early 2021, his team partnered with MassBioEd, bringing together 12 life science/healthcare organizations to pilot workforce-infused project based learning with over 300 high school students in rural Massachusetts. He previously led content strategy at SkillBase, a student-run platform commissioned by the Harvard Kennedy School that curates upskilling content for workers displaced by the COVID pandemic. In 2020, he interned at the Center on Rural Innovation building feasibility models for rural incubators. In this role, he learned the vital role of entrepreneurship in local economic development and STEM education. Prior to his doctoral program, Yefei was the Product Manager at Nearpod, a popular edtech solution used in 3 out of 4 U.S. school districts. At Nearpod, he worked alongside school district teams across the country, helping scale Nearpod’s reach and impact for K-12 students. During this time, Yefei with his friends launched Camp Hokukea, a 5-week summer boarding camp in Oahu, Hawaii for Asian children and their parents. As an avid language learner. Yefei also advises on technology strategy for ChatENG, an online language instruction startup teaching East Asian Languages.

Yefei began his career path in college as a Breakthrough Collaborative Teacher in Minneapolis. After college, he served for 3 years as a Senior Admissions Counselor for his alma mater, the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. In this role, he had the privilege of working with rural high schools across the upper midwest to recruit geographically underrepresented students. He has his M.Ed. in Education Policy from Harvard and his B.A. in Asian Languages/Literatures from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.

Yefei is looking forward to supporting Life Science Cares on STEM and broader education and career pathway initiatives.
