2024 Timmerman Traverse passes halfway point for fundraising & training targets

Halfway through the campaign, the 2024 Timmerman Traverse team has raised more than $550,000 for Life Science Cares. Thanks to support from sponsoring organizations like the KCap Biotechnology Fund and HSBC, the team is on track to reach their goal of $1 million raised for LSC’s community partnerships and investments to disrupt poverty in our communities.

With just under three months to go until they hit the trailhead, the team is garnering a lot of support from their colleagues in industry.

“There is no other industry so willing to tackle any challenge that comes our way, whether it’s literally climbing mountains or leaning in to impact poverty,” said Doug Fambrough, managing partner at KCap Biotechnology Fund LP and a past Timmerman Traverse participant. “I’m thrilled to support fellow industry leaders and Life Science Cares’ work in the community.”

Along with presenting sponsors KCap Biotechnology Fund and HSBC, committed lead sponsors include Bain Capital Life Sciences, Fenwick, Lazard, Marea Therapeutics, One Digital, Simcha Therapeutics, TD Securities and Third Rock Ventures. Other sponsors include 1AB, Alexandria Real Estate Equities, BiotechTV, Choate, Dentons, Dispatch Bio, Engine Room Consulting Services, Inc., Healthpeak Properties, Inc., IQVIA, KBI Biopharma, Klein Hersh, Newmark, Passage Bio, Sam Brown Inc. Healthcare Communications and the Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati Foundation.

The 2024 team, led by Traverse founder Luke Timmerman, will hike 20+ miles across the North Cascade Mountains in Washington State over the course of two days in August.

Proceeds from the Traverse support Life Science Cares’ community investments, grantmaking and partnerships providing access to basic needs, access to education and access to opportunity in Greater Boston, Philadelphia, New York, San Diego and the San Francisco Bay Area. To date, the Life Science Cares network has distributed more than $16 million in grants to community partners and supercharged those grants with 20,000+ volunteer hours and more than $1 million in in-kind contributions.

“We’re honored to continue to support the great work of Life Science Cares – an organization helping make sure that nobody goes without basic needs and access to opportunity.  The Timmerman Traverse has become a critical event in support of Life Science Cares by harnessing industry resources to effect real change for people living in or affected by the cycle of poverty,” said Dave Sabow, Head of U.S. Innovation Banking, HSBC. “HSBC is proud to sponsor the Traverse and continue to support the industry’s commitment to collaboration, innovation, and giving back to the communities in which we live and work.”
