Awards given to 20 nonprofit organizations throughout the San Diego region will support initiatives addressing poverty and inequity
San Diego ─ December 12, 2023 ─ Life Science Cares (LSC) San Diego today announced that it has awarded $1.2 million in grants to 20 San Diego-based nonprofit organizations working to address the problem of poverty and inequity locally, with grants focusing on education, basic needs and economic opportunity. Thirteen of the organizations have previously received Life Science Cares grants while seven are new grantees.
“With the generous contributions from the local life science community, we have been able to more than double the funding for our fall 2023 grant rounds compared to a year ago,” said Leane Marchese, executive director of Life Science Cares San Diego. “By harnessing the philanthropic power of life science companies, employees and executives, we are positively impacting transformative programs in San Diego.”

Life Science Cares San Diego underwent a competitive process for this year’s grant selection. 31 nonprofit organizations were selected to submit grant applications, from which 24 were selected for an official site visit by Life Science Cares San Diego’s team. Ultimately, 20 were chosen for funding. These grants are only made possible by the ongoing generosity of employees, companies and individuals from the life science community.
