Project Onramp
LSC Impact & Programs
We are committed to breaking down barriers.
Project Onramp creates access to paid summer internships in the life sciences, for Pell Grant-eligible undergraduate students. Our goal is to close the experience and opportunity gap for these talented students by helping them to secure their first industry experience.
Working in an industry setting helps these students to learn technical skills not taught in class, hones their teamwork and collaboration skills, and helps them create the professional networks that are critical to those first steps in a young person’s career.
Launched in Boston in summer 2019 and serving more than 300 students a year since, the program has now been scaled to all Life Science Cares affiliates.
Companies commit or create internship positions for the Project Onramp talent pool, and we provide candidates who have the required coursework and unmatched energy for the opportunity. It is up to the manager to interview and hire, if they find a student who is a fit. Project Onramp partner companies can use existing interview and hiring processes and manage an Onramp intern the way they would any other. The Onramp team provides additional support and professional development for students, to ensure they make the most of their summer and leverage their opportunities well beyond. These are paid internships, but there is no additional cost or contract associated with partnering with Project Onramp. Any company associated with the life science industry is welcome to join us. We have undergraduate students interested in working in labs, as well as on the general and administrative sides of the industry.
