Childhood hunger contributes to a generational cycle of poverty

Nearly 50% of students in San Diego County rely on free or reduced-price meals provided in schools. During the summer these meals are unavailable.

The Life Science Community is Uniting Together to Help

Engage your full team in making a difference today!

Join Life Science Cares to fight the summer meal gap by hosting a food drive with your company this June.

Life Science Cares will hold a food drive closing event at Feeding San Diego on June 21st, where the life science industry will unite to drop off food donations, learn more about the issue of food insecurity in San Diego, and volunteer!

How to participate in the food drive:

  • Representatives from Life Science companies in San Diego should register here on behalf of their teams. Registration closes on May 31, 2023.
    • Upon submission of registration you will receive:
      • A guide to holding a food drive in your office, including info on how to engage your team, how to acquire bins to collect food, and more details on the food drive closing event.
      • A flyer and template email to share with your team to facilitate engagement.
      • A connection with Life Science Cares staff to answer any questions and provide support!
  • The following items are requested by Feeding San Diego. Please only donate the following. **do not donate anything in a glass container**:

*How your team members can participate in the closing event on June 21st from 2 – 5:30 :

  • In your registration submitted above you were asked to provide an estimate on the number of people who would attend the closing event from your team. Please update charlotte@lifesciencecares.org if this number changes.
  • Please note that every individual who would like to volunteer inside the Feeding San Diego warehouse from 3:00 – 5:30 must register here. Please register ASAP as space is limited. Volunteers highly needed and appreciated for this shift!
  • Please note that if you are unable to attend the closing event, there are opportunities to just drop off food donations on June 21st. See agenda above.

Thank you for your commitment to making a difference in San Diego. Together we can do more to ensure that no kid goes hungry in our community!
